VSF works closely with Paul Lacoste Sports (PLS) in providing the state of Mississippi the opportunity to be a healthier state through physical exercise and training programs that have an additional emphasis on weight loss and healthy lifestyle changes. Some of the programs that have helped make a positive difference for MS include Mississippi Makeover and the Fit 4 Series. A diverse group of adults, youth (ages seven and up), and college and professional athletes are all served throughout the multiple programs. This group is diverse in economic, ethical, and racial characteristics. Through these programs, over a thousand people have lost anywhere between 20 and 100 pounds. PLS currently has several people that have been inducted into the 100 Pound Club, with several more participants getting close. Lives are being changed daily.
Over the past five years, the success of the Fit 4 Series in MS has grabbed the country’s attention, generating millions of earned media coverage. In publicizing and promoting the programs and the state of MS, Fit 4 Change, Fit 4 Teaching, and Fit 4 the Coast have all appeared on news network shows like Fox News Happening Now, CNN Newsroom, and the national public radio show Tell Me More. More than 600 publications across the country, including New York Times, Washington Post, USA Today, and Men’s Health have all recognized the success of VSF in partnership with PLS. Within MS, the programs have been covered by most news channels, several print outlets (The Clarion Ledger and MS Sports Magazine), and radio shows such as The Paul Gallo Show and MS Public Broadcasting’s On Air Radio Live.
