FIT 4 SERIES
The Paul Lacoste Sports FIT 4 Series mission is to provide an annual platform for Mississippi, and Mississippians, to lead by example and improve the overall health of the state. Although FIT 4 is now celebrating over 10 years of existence, the concept started small and simple. “Leading By Example” was the subject matter of one of Paul Lacoste’s graduate school research papers at Mississippi State University. It was during this time Paul Lacoste began to contemplate how to transform thoughts and words into actions.
Considering Mississippi’s track record of leading the nation in obesity and poor health factors, Paul Lacoste Sports decided the most appropriate place to start was FIT 4 CHANGE at the Mississippi State Capitol in Jackson, Mississippi. In the first four years, Mississippi lawmakers lost over 11,000 pounds! And now, for twelve weeks during every legislative session, they challenge themselves and each other to lead by example fighting obesity in Mississippi.
“It was like building a campfire. When you have the right conditions and materials in place, all you need is a little spark. Mississippi leading the nation in health-related negatives has always bothered me since I was a child. Once FIT 4 ideas got a foothold in my head and my heart, I knew it had to be done. The spark provided by training members of the Mississippi State Legislature and Governor’s Office (FIT 4 CHANGE 2010) has now grown into a statewide movement to fight obesity and all its related diseases. While it makes me incredibly proud to see what our state leaders have done, I know we have to keep going…we have to keep improving.”
FIT 4 CHANGE has earned, and continues to earn, the State of Mississippi millions of dollars worth of positive media. Over the years, Paul Lacoste Sports has made a priority of offering similar opportunities to teachers, preachers, nurses, and doctors (FIT 4 TEACHING, FIT 4 PREACHING, and FIT 4 HEALTHCARE). The programs involve either twelve or eight weeks of training and consist of intense training classes that meet for one hour four days per week. These ultimate, full-body workouts are different each day and activities cover everything from speed and agility stations to cardiovascular and strength training.
“The importance of school leaders, church leaders, and healthcare leaders is woven into the fabric of each and every community around Mississippi. Their leadership, and their willingness to commit to a healthy lifestyle, will inspire others to do the same – especially children. That is why Paul Lacoste Sports has devoted time, attention, and resources to building and growing FIT 4. And this is just the beginning!”
